From political science to insurance underwriting

A career in insurance wasn’t in the cards for Max Roberts when he started his political science degree at UC, but that was where he landed. “I originally thought I’d pursue law or public policy,” said Roberts. “Political science gave me a strong foundation in critical analysis and communication, skills that turned out to be surprisingly relevant in the insurance world.”

A new ‘Reading Rainbow’ brings nostalgia

Enter the woods, if you dare

Just in time for the season when things go bump in the night, UC’s English department in the College of Arts and Sciences has come together with Cincinnati Parks to make the ultimate spooky experience for writers and nature lovers. UC’s Hike + Write program hosts a Halloween hike and campfire at dusk in Caldwell Woods titled ‘Hauntings: Encountering the Unknowns in Nature.’ Said Maia Morgan, assistant professor of English, “It just feels natural at this time of year as the days get shorter and colder and the natural world goes enters a season of death, decay, and the wintering that will lead to rebirth in the spring,” said Morgan.

UC hosts governors for bipartisan conversation

The University of Cincinnati welcomes Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear for a conversation on policy and leadership. The discussion, titled "Across the River and Across the Aisle," will be moderated by former U.S. Sen. Rob Portman and is being sponsored by the Portman Center for Policy Solutions.

Conference examines future of disability studies

The New Directions in Disability Studies Conference 2025 gives UC affiliates and the Cincinnati community an opportunity to engage with emerging research, thoughtful discussions and practices shaping the future of disability studies. The two-day event will be at the Edwards Center on UC’s Uptown Campus bringing together students, scholars, faculty, and community members. Put on by a range of centers and colleges at UC, this conference highlights how disability studies continue to evolve and reflect the world around us, emphasizing lived experiences and academic practices.
